July.
My first themed project for the EverSewn Maker Team!
The theme: 4th of July
It always starts with the same question. What am I going to make?
I love fireworks, and am totally on a mini/wall quilt kick right now, so that was the criteria I had in mind when searching for a pattern.
After doing lots of searching, I found the perfect pattern on Etsy!
It is 'Firework Frenzy' by Lindsey Weight of Primrose Cottage Quilts.
Pattern purchased, I headed to Jo-Ann Fabrics & Crafts to find some fabric.
Picking out fabrics is one of my favorite parts of the quilting process...well, picking fabrics for ANY sewing project, really!
Since this was a table runner/wall quilt, the piecing went quickly and smoothly.
Once the top was completed and the quilt sandwich (backing, batting, top) was made, it was time to decide what quilting design I was going to do.
I knew I wanted a design that added texture but didn't compete with the quilt design.
So I figured, why not try my hand at some free motion quilting. This was a small project, as opposed to a larger quilt, so perfect time to try it!
I did a simple meander pattern, which was perfect for trying to get a feel for free motion. Let me tell ya, the texture created by this quilting design is just so yummy and fabulous!
Still need some more practice, but this was a good first go at free motion quilting.
For my threads, I used Aurifil 40wt in Navy (#2785) for the top and Aurifil 50wt in White (#2024) for the back.
Of course I had to do my fave big stitch binding technique!
I wanted to add some dimension, so I added some embroidery on all the stars of the smaller fireworks.
And that’s a wrap for the July project!
I can’t wait to show you what I was up to for the August theme: ‘Sew Cool - beating the summer heat’.
So, until next time!
Don't forget to live life colorfully and creatively!
